All students, including returning Auburn University students, seeking scholarship consideration must apply through the Auburn University Scholarship Manager AUSOM and adhere to the published deadlines.
Interested students can apply for all institutional scholarships using the online application once each academic year.
Auburn University Scholarships
Auburn University recognizes the importance of a quality education and we are dedicated to helping you find a way to achieve your higher education goals. A number of scholarships are awarded annually by the Office of University Scholarships, including:
- Four-year, renewable Freshman Scholarships for incoming freshmen
- One-year General Scholarships for new and current students
Departmental Scholarships are also awarded each year to new and current students by the various colleges and schools on campus. In addition, External Scholarships are applied directly to students’ university billing accounts by the Office of University Scholarships. College of Liberal Arts Scholarships
There are three kinds of competitive College of Liberal Arts Scholarships for which all CLA undergraduates may apply (incoming and returning):
- General Academic Scholarships
- Academic Enrichment Scholarships
- Opportunities for Undergraduate Research in CLA Fellowships

Department of Music Scholarships
Scholarship opportunities are available for music majors and non-music majors alike; all require a successful audition.
Incoming students who complete the AUSOM application and audition successfully, either online or on campus, will be considered for all scholarships for which they are eligible.
The audition deadline is February 1.
No scholarships can be awarded without successful admittance into Auburn University.
Returning students seeking ensemble or independent scholarships should consult the appropriate coordinator or director for more information.

Non-music Major Scholarships
Prospective students not majoring in music.
Requires participation in an AU music ensemble/s.
Awards are made based on playing ability and the instrumentation needs for each ensemble.

- Complete the AUSOM application

Independent Scholarships
The John W. Tamblyn Scholarship
This scholarship recognizes outstanding student achievement and talent. Eligibility includes:
- Auburn University students of all majors who participate in the musical activities of the Department of Music for the duration of the award.
- Incoming freshman may audition as a high school senior, but must enroll at Auburn to receive the award.
Auditions are held each spring for the following academic year. Awards of up to $1,000 are for one year and are not renewable, but previous winners are eligible.

Alma Dark Howard Memorial Music Scholarship
This scholarship is available for graduate studies and identifies and supports the advanced training of talented musicians who are also dedicated community servants. Eligibility includes:
- Seniors and recent graduates of the five schools in which Alma Dark had a special interest: Auburn University, Campbell University, Greensboro College, Mars Hill College and Meredith College.
The faculty of each school selects candidates who audition for an outside panel of judges and interview with a scholarship committee.
The Glenn F. Gross Memorial Scholarship
George and Charlotte Gross established this scholarship in memory of their son, Glenn Gross. A senior at Auburn in 1987, his untimely death cut short a promising career in music education and church music. Glenn's career would have enriched the quality of life in others through his teaching and service. This memorial scholarship will help ensure that future musicians and educators might go forth in his place. For further information, contact:
