New Flight Student Information

2024 Incoming Students

The School of Aviation is excited about your admission to Auburn University and intended major in Professional Flight. Due to soaring demand for an Auburn education and stronger-than-anticipated response to offers of admission, we cannot guarantee that all incoming students will be able to fly in their first semesters in the program. However, we are expanding flight instruction capacity as quickly as we can and will do everything possible to accommodate the anticipated demand.

Flight Prioritization Process

To accommodate incoming flight students, the School of Aviation will give the following students priority consideration for flight training:

1. Students who declared a major in Professional Flight and submitted their enrollment deposit by April 2.
2. Students who completed the secondary document submission process by May 15^th at 4:00 pm.

If you missed the deadline, you are still able to submit documentation, but you will not receive priority consideration. Students without priority will be added to the flight training schedule as space becomes available and all priority students have been placed.

You will be required to submit the following:

• Copy of FAA 1^st class medical (Limitation allowed: Must use corrective lenses). Find an Aviation Medical Examiner (AME) in your area. Be sure you carefully proof all information on your student pilot certificate before leaving the physician’s office. Learn more about the FAA’s medical requirements. 
• Information on any completed flight certificates/ratings.
• Information on any flight certificates/ratings in progress and expected completion.

Additional Documentation Required for Incoming Flight Students

Additional documentation will also be required for submission at a later date before beginning flight training in the fall semester.

1. An original birth certificate (with the raised seal) and a government-issued photo identification or your current passport. These documents can be brought to Camp War Eagle/SOS. The Transportation Security Administration requires pilot schools to keep a copy on file for every student pilot.
2. Copies of completed flight certificates/ratings.

Academic Standards

If you are a professional flight major, you must earn at least a C in all courses in the major and maintain a minimum 2.70 overall GPA. The professional flight curriculum is designed for progressive development of flight knowledge and skills, and if you earn less than a C, you will not be allowed to progress to the next course. For courses with less than a C, you may repeat the course only one time. Students who earn a grade less than C in two or more professional flight major courses, or maintain an overall GPA below 2.70, will be considered for dismissal from the program.
