Emily Myers, LCSW, has been associated with the social work undergraduate program at Auburn University for twenty-one years in both a teaching and administrative capacity. She is a licensed clinical social worker and has been actively involved in outreach, scholarship, and collaborative community service in the areas of aging, addictions, adoptions, AIDS, community organization, and women's issues.
She has presented at numerous conferences on the topic of service learning and care-giving for persons suffering from dementia in collaboration with the School of Nursing. She is one of two faculty members who are involved in a collaborative grant with the Auburn University College of Architecture, Design and Construction Building Science Program which identifies opportunities to enhance the built environment for disenfranchised community partners.
Myers has taught macro social work with a service learning focus for the past eleven years. Many of the students' needs assessment projects from this class have led to significant community and organizational change. She teaches aging and addictions courses which also have service learning projects incorporated in the class.
Myers has served in a variety of leadership positions on campus related to diversity, and was chair of the Auburn University Multicultural Diversity Commission when this commission changed the university anti-discrimination policy to include sexual orientation. She is a former chair of the Women's Resource Center Advisory Board and a faculty senator.
