CLA Outreach Day (CLA O Day) gives ninth through eleventh grade high school students the opportunity to explore our vast range of liberal arts majors. This event is aimed to promote more access and engagement with our rural counties, first generation students and those from a multicultural background.
The day will begin with an immersive experience by attending an interactive session hosted by various majors in CLA. These sessions range from a mock trial for those interested in law to producing a television newscast in the making media session. You'll also get an opportunity to interact with College of Liberal Arts students, faculty and staff throughout the day. You'll gain valuable insight into the Auburn University admission process, take a campus tour, and enjoy great food along with entertainment from our theatre and music majors.

Explore CLA Sessions
Making Media—Introduction to the Basics: Are you a passionate media creator? Whether your interest is in film or photography, broadcasting or sports production, in two mini sessions you’ll learn the basics of image making and media production. In session one, you’ll explore multimedia while learning ways to improve production quality of images using mobile devices. The lesson will include ways to work on composition as well as capturing and editing images. Download the free Adobe Lightroom Mobile App for this session. In the second mini session, you’ll be introduced to the basics of producing a television newscast. You will have the opportunity to be on camera, learn camera operation, operate a switcher and control the video. You will look at the basics of producing a newscast such as reading from a teleprompter, switching between production cameras and learn proper framing for each part of a newscast.
War Legal—The Elements of a Mock Trial: Are you interested in possibly going to law school? Even if you are not, do you like to perform competitively? Do you like to think critically? Welcome to college-level mock trial! Mock trial is an activity that blends competitive performance with all the elements of a real trial. You'll learn the anatomy of a trial including opening statements, direct and cross-examinations, closing arguments and sitting on a jury. During the session, you'll also learn and then participate in the various parts of the trial. And there are awards for participants, just like in real competitions!
CSI Auburn: Are you a high school student who enjoys TV shows and books about forensic science and crime? Do you ever wonder what really happens behind the scenes of a homicide investigation, or what can be done to prevent crime from happening? Our Department of Sociology, Anthropology and Social Work invites you to be a forensic and social scientist for a day as you are guided through a series of active learning stations. Each station presents “clues” and techniques that can be used to help law enforcement, including search and recovery techniques (forensic archaeology), identification of age, sex and trauma from bones (forensic anthropology), post-trauma care (social work) and exploring social patterns for crime prevention (sociology/criminology). With this information, students will learn about real world careers and work together to investigate and solve a mock murder.

Registration
Registration for CLA O Day will open on Jan. 6, 2025, and close on March 28, 2025. Each student will need to submit a registration form and identify if they will be traveling with a school representative or a parent/guardian. Once your registration form has been submitted, you will receive a registration confirmation email. If you need to make any changes to your registration or if accessibility services are needed, please contact Mrs. Letitia Gulley Smith at lrg0020@auburn.edu.
Please plan to arrive no later than 8:45 am to allow for walking distance from the parking lot to the Melton Student Center. We look forward to seeing you at CLA O Day!
Attire
You will be walking to various places throughout the day so please wear casual school appropriate attire and comfortable shoes.
Parking
- 4th level of the Stadium Parking deck (facing Jordan-Hare Stadium). If you intend to park in the guest lot on the 4th floor of the Stadium Parking Deck, an attendant will give you a pass at the booth located at the base of the 4th floor ramp. If you have a handicap placard or license plate, an Auburn University parking permit is still required to park on campus. If you have further questions on where to park when visiting campus, please call the Parking Services Office at (334) 844-4143.

- Buses can drop students off in the Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum parking lot and park in the hayfield which is located across from the College of Nursing whose physical address is 710 South Donahue Drive, Auburn, AL 36849. Due to construction at the baseball stadium on South Donahue Drive, please enter the coliseum parking lot through the Biggio Drive or Heisman Drive parking lot entrance.
