Myoung-Gi Chon selected for summer 2023 Research & Scholarship Connections Travel Grant to Taiwan
Associate Professor of Public Relations Myoung-Gi Chon is one of eight Auburn faculty to receive a Research & Scholarship Connections Travel Grant.
The Office of International Programs, or OIP, awarded the Research & Scholarship Connections Travel Grant for travel to National Cheng Kung University, National Taipei University of Nursing and Health Sciences and National Taipei University of Technology in May.
The Research & Scholarship Connections Travel Grant leverages Auburn’s strongest international partnerships to foster collaborations across disciplines. Faculty benefit from OIP’s contacts and logistical expertise as well as the security and longevity of relationships formed at the university level to make the connections they need to further world-class research on the international stage. The grant includes an itinerary arranged by OIP to include meetings with university, government and industry contacts selected based on recipients’ research and scholarship areas.
Chon, an associate professor in the School of Communication and Journalism, has served as a co-advisor of the Public Relations Student Society of America and advisor of the Korean Student Association. As one of board members of Korea Corner, he has attempted to bridge the gap between the Korean community and non-Korean communities by promoting mutual understanding. Chon's primary research interests are crisis-risk management, health communication and ESG (Environmental, Social and Governance) from the view of public relations.
Interest in the Research & Scholarship Connections Travel Grants has been high, with 10 faculty members traveling to Korea over spring break and 27 faculty members applying for the Taiwan program.
Recent global events have shaken us all and shaped the way universities interact across borders. But now, with the world open and hungry for solutions, it’s time for Auburn to create the future we wish to see through our research, scholarship and innovation.
