Department of World Languages faculty member recognized by Alabama Germany Partnership
The Alabama Germany Partnership has recognized Anja Werth, German lecturer in the Department of World Languages, Literatures and Cultures, with the Barbara Fischer Education Award for Excellence. The award is presented annually for significant educational contributions to the Alabama-Germany relationship.
The Alabama Germany Partnership (AGP) presents this annual education award in tribute to the late Dr. Karin ‘Barbara’ Anne-Luise Fischer who was a Professor of German at the University of Alabama and a founding member of AGP. The partnership promotes collaboration and develops relationships between businesses and individuals with ties to Alabama and Germany. The partnership also works to increase business opportunities and foster cultural exchange.
Werth has been a member of the Auburn faculty since 2007 with a break between 2014-2016. She teaches a range of courses in German, including beginning German, intermediate composition and conversation, and a course on German film. In addition, she teaches the department’s global fluency and awareness course.
Before coming to Auburn, she taught at Carthage College in Kenosha, Wisconsin. Werth earned her MA in German from the University of Leipzig.
AGP is a statewide, non-profit organization dedicated to the development of the educational, business, cultural, and social relationships among individuals and organizations with ties to both Alabama and Germany. Formed in 1988, the AGP develops and support relationships and friendships between organizations and individuals in Alabama and Germany in the areas of education, business, and culture.
