Shakita Brooks Jones receives Game Changer Award

Shakita Brooks Jones, assistant clinical professor of social work, is the recipient of Alabama State University's Game Changer Award. The award is presented annually to honor a social worker who epitomizes the best of the profession’s values and achievements through specific accomplishments.

"In honoring Shakita Brooks-Jones as a Game Changer recipient, the Master of Social Work Community Advisory Board Members highlight her admirable achievements in the field of social work," said Dawna Nelson, Assistant Professor and Master of Social Work Program Director at Alabama State University.

The award will be presented at the 2nd Annual Child Welfare Conference Luncheon on April 14, 2023 at 11:15 a.m. on the historic campus of Alabama State University.

Jones, a Montgomery, Ala., native, has a Bachelor of Social Work from Troy State University and a Master of Social Work from the University of Alabama. She also has a master’s degree in public administration and a nonprofit management certification from Auburn University Montgomery. She is the founder of Central Alabama Alliance Resource & Advocacy Center.

Jones teaches Social Welfare Policy, Methods III and Practicum. Her areas of interest are understanding more about the root causes of poverty and the plight of the working poor; exploring increased HIV/AIDS rates in Alabama; and applying practice knowledge to remove historical socioeconomic barriers that have disproportionately impacted Alabama’s working poor in rural areas.
