Professor Emeritus Flynt embarking on signing tour to promote newest book about Harper Lee
Auburn University Professor Emeritus of History Wayne Flynt will soon begin a multi-state signing tour to promote his newest book about his longtime friend and literature icon Harper Lee.
Flynt, who taught history at Auburn for nearly 30 years, will kick off an eight-month tour by signing copies of his new book, “Afternoons With Harper Lee” at the Alabama Booksmith in Birmingham on Sept. 22. That signing will begin a circuit that will stretch into late April for the two-time Pulitzer Prize nominee.
“Afternoons With Harper Lee” is Flynt’s second book about the famed Alabama author and chronicles the 12-year friendship he and his late wife, Dartie, shared with Lee. It is a follow-up to his 2017 book “Mockingbird Songs: My Friendship with Harper Lee” and shares stories the friends exchanged during the latter years of Lee’s life. It is available for pre-order and will be released by the University of Georgia Press’ NewSouth Books on Oct. 1.
Flynt, who performed the eulogy at Lee’s funeral in 2016, will perform 40 signings in 10 states between September and April to promote the book.
