Overload Request Process

Course Overload Request

Auburn University allows students to request an increase in their credit hour limit in certain cases, known as a course overload request. These requests are subject to a thorough review and approval by the Dean or their designee, based on a student’s academic record, current course load and the justification provided.

Approval Process

  • Eligibility: Overload requests are available for students who have demonstrated strong academic performance and can justify the need for additional credit hours.
  • Review Criteria: Requests are evaluated based on the student’s overall academic record, current course load and the reason for the request. This evaluation ensures that students are set up for success in managing a heavier course load.
  • Approval Authority: All course overload requests must be reviewed and approved by the Dean or their designee. Decisions are made at their discretion, considering the student's academic history and the justification provided.

Important Acknowledgment: Before submitting an overload request, students must acknowledge Auburn University’s policy that submission of the request does not guarantee approval. Final decisions are based on a comprehensive evaluation of several factors.

How to Request an Overload: Students interested in requesting a course overload should complete the Overload Request Form. This form will require the student to outline their reasons for the overload and submit for review by the appropriate academic personnel.

Deadline for Submissions: Requests should be submitted well in advance of the start of the semester to ensure timely review.
