Plexico named associate dean of engagement and graduate studies
Professor Laura Plexico began a new role as the associate dean of engagement and graduate studies for the College of Liberal Arts on Jan. 1.
As associate dean, Plexico oversees strategic engagement efforts, graduate studies and interdisciplinary and internationalization programs in the College of Liberal Arts.
“I am excited to join the College of Liberal Arts leadership team as the associate dean of engagement and graduate studies,” Plexico said. “I am eager to work closely with students, faculty, staff, alumni and the community, as I value opportunities to serve in a capacity that facilitates growth and supports others. I look forward to building collaborative relationships and contributing to the Auburn experience in a way that is impactful and promotes excellence within the College of Liberal Arts.”
Prior to serving as associate dean of engagement and graduate studies, Plexico served as a professor and chair of the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences. Her research expertise includes fluency disorders, speech science and counseling. She also directs the Stuttering and Speech Science Lab.
“Dr. Plexico brings the experience and vision necessary to lead the college’s engagement, graduate, interdisciplinary and internationalization programs,” Dean Jason Hicks said. “Her exemplary record of departmental leadership will now serve the entire college as she continues to elevate the Liberal Arts experience from a higher institutional level.”
Plexico received a Bachelor of Science from the University of Montevallo, and a master’s degree and doctorate from the University of Memphis.
Allison Plumb, professor of speech, language and hearing sciences and speech-language pathology graduate program officer, will serve as the acting chair of the Department of Speech, Language and Hearing Sciences through Aug. 15.
