Members of the Philosophy Club are passionate about philosophy and meet informally to discuss philosophical topics of interest. The club runs hand in hand with the Auburn chapter of the honors society Phi Sigma Tau and is open to every student who has broad philosophical interests and a desire to participate and contribute to the philosophical life of the group.
The club sponsors a film and philosophy series, a reading group, a workshop in which students present and discuss work in progress, and a series of virtual meetings with former philosophy graduates to learn about their experiences and career paths. The club hosts a popular series of philosophical panel discussions at a local coffee shop or virtually covering topics such as the existence of God, beauty in the eyes of the beholder, death and more. The club regularly travels to regional and national philosophical conventions, and is always interested in welcoming new members.

Ethics Debate Team
Each fall, students prepare to participate in the Southeastern Regional Ethics Bowl competition.
The competition focuses on 15 applied ethics cases distributed in early September. Students analyze the central ethical tensions of each case, crafting arguments and illustrations to support their claims about what ethical duties the relevant parties face, who is to praise or to blame morally for actions described in the case, and how relevant ethical goods such as utility, justice, autonomy and integrity might be maximized. Students then present their views and critique the presented views of others in several rounds of highly structured debate at the regional competition.
Participation on the Ethics Debate Team is a great way to meet new people, practice your debate skills, build your resume and get course credit.
The Ethics Debate Team meets twice a week in the fall semester for a total of five hours a week. For more information, contact Antonio Capuano at email@example.com.
